Mission of the Environmental Health Division

The Ashtabula County Health Department’s Division of Environmental Health is involved in a wide range of environmental programs that have the potential to impact the health and safety of the citizens within the Ashtabula County General Health District. This district encompasses all of Ashtabula County except for the cities of Ashtabula and Conneaut.

These programs deal with the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the disposal of wastes, and the way we affect the health of those around us.

The mission of the Environmental Health Division is to prevent the spread of disease, accidents, and other environmental hazards through inspections and education of the people that we rely on for our basic needs.

The Ashtabula County Health Department licenses, permits, and inspects or conducts the following:

*    Campgrounds, Recreational Vehicle Parks, Resident Camps

*    Construction and Demolition Debris Sites

*    Disaster Preparedness

*    Food Service (Restaurant) Operations

*    Food Establishment Operations

*    Vending Machines, Fairs and Festivals

*    Foodborne Disease Investigations

*    Institutions

*    Manufactured Home Parks

*    Marinas

*    Private Water Systems, Bacterial and Chemical Water Testing, Well Drilling

*    Public Swimming Pools, Spas and Bathing Beaches

*    Rabies Control

*    Investigation of reported Animal Bites, Baiting of Raccoons and Rabies Education

*    Real Estate Water Sampling and Sewage System Testing

*    School Safety and Sanitation

*    Septage Pumpers and Disposal Sites

*    Sewage System Design and Inspection of Residential and Commercial systems

*    Solid Waste Landfills and Haulers

*    Subdivision Evaluations and Lot Splits

*    Tattoo and Body Piercing Operations

Sanitarians

Activities in these many programs are conducted by Registered Sanitarians. Registered Sanitarians possess specialized knowledge, training, and experience in the field of environmental health.

Persons needing information related to any of the services provided by the Environmental Health Division are asked to contact the Health Department.

Office hours for Sanitarians are:

8:00am-10:00am Monday through Friday

From 10:00am-4:30pm, Sanitarians are out in the field carrying out their duties.

 

Plumbing Services

All plumbing installations and alterations are reviewed for residential and commercial customers throughout the county except for residential customers in the City of Conneaut. Plumbing systems are inspected for proper installation to insure the safety and health of the users.

Plumbing inspectors are in the office from 8:00-9:30am weekdays.

From 9:30 am-4:30pm, Plumbing Inspectors are out in the field carrying out their duties.
