Food Protection Training Courses
Clarification of Food Protection Rule 3701-21-25 of the Ohio Administrative Code
Effective March 1, 2010 a Level One Food Protection Training Course is required of the following food service operations and food establishments:
1. All NEW food service operations and food establishments
licensed on or after March 1, 2010.

have been implicated in a food borne disease outbreak.

have chronic unsanitary conditions documented by the
Health Department.

Existing food service and food establishment operations that are renewing their food service or food establishment licenses are not required to complete a Level One Certification in Food Protection Training Course.
The Ohio Department of Health is in the process of approving trainers who can provide Level One Certification in Food Protection Training in Food Service and Food Establishments.
Food Service and Food Establishment operators should consult the Ohio Department of Health web site at
www.odh.ohio.gov to determine who has been approved as a trainer in Level One Certification in Food Protection Training.
